He was also awarded the Padma Shri (2001) and the Arjuna Award for Lawn Tennis in 1995
In 1999, Bhupathi won the US Open mixed title and three doubles trophies with Leander Paes, including the Frem Open and Wimbledon
Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza won the Australian Open in 2009
He married Bollywood actress Lara Dutta in 2011
